All About Small Parcel Shipping

Small parcel shipping is where you send out packages individually that are under 70 pounds, which differs from freight shipping for pallets, large containers, or oversized packages. Unless it’s B2B, the customers aren’t going to be ordering a bunch of these packages, and it might be good for a variety of small items. If it’s over 150 pounds or is something large like furniture, it will have to go through freight shipping to get shipped out.

Why use Small Parcel Shipping

There are a variety of reasons for using small parcel shipping for your business that we’ll tap into right now. First and foremost, it’s great for keeping track of everything. The technology is so much more advanced than before, and it also uses APIs in order to connect with this.

The cool thing is that if you use a shipping service, they also send out different confirmation emails the second an order ships, and they may offer different tracking, including the exact place, and of course, when it’ll probably get there. This helps to minimize the lost shipments and is much more handy than just freight shipping stuff too.

It’s also cheaper too. For orders that are high volume, participating with a 3PL is a good way to have bulk shipping with bulk discounts for small parcels as well. This is cool because there are shippers out there with the economies of scale agreements, which offer a high amount of small parcels into different networks of carriers, offering customers a chance to take advantage of the discounted rates that they may not otherwise have.

It’s also so much better for the environment.  Eco-friendly and no waste shipping is what customers will want to go for, and it saves a lot of money, especially when you look at how many tress are cut down for some of these shipments.

These shipping services are great because they try to offer eco friendly shipments for as much as you can get, and it’s also great for being cost effective, and also makes the brand a lot more eco friendly too and saves money when factoring in dimensional weight too.

The best Small Shipping services

The three major ones are FedEx, USPS, and UPS. While these three handle small parchments for all of the domestic shippers out there, they ea specialize in different industry areas. There is no carrier that’s better than the other though since they do offer their own benefits and drawbacks.

Some people may also consider regional parcel carriers since it is focused on one region, and it’s faster than other shipping services. Usually, the best way to determine whether or not you want to use one or the other is to look at the different shipping options, and then go from there.

There are also third-party shipping services too, which you can use. For example, United Delivery Services is one of the smaller regional places, and this is used for Midwest region deliveries. This is also quite cheap too. If you’re shipping out west, you can get OnTrac, which is good for overnight and two-day delivery, along with late-night delivery.

But if you want a cheap option, you go USPS, and if it’s small, you can actually pay a whole lot less. UPS is good for fast shipping with carrier liability in the event of damage. FedEx is your best option if you want a ground service, and for business deliveries, but this one tends to be the most expensive, so factor that into this too when considering carriers as well too.
